My Approach

I provide evidence-informed psychotherapy in-person & online to adults in Washington D.C., Virginia, and 40+ other PSYPACT states. Using warmth and empathy, I help clients examine and reflect on their lives, and move in the direction of their goals and values. I’m an active participant in the therapy process, and view our work as a collaborative endeavor.

I integrate a variety of scientifically-supported approaches, and tailor my approach to the unique needs of the client. Some common modalities used:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)- including CBT for Eating Disorders (CBT-E), CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I), and Inference-based CBT for OCD (I-CBT).

  • Exposure+Response Prevention (ERP)- an OCD-specific treatment.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)- including mindfulness, self-compassion, and grounding.

  • Relational-Cultural Therapy- recognizing that each individual has a unique cultural background and brings that into the therapy room.

As a part of the therapy process, I draw upon clients' strengths & help them develop new perspectives and gain new skills.

About Dr. Dunn

Originally from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, I’ve moved around quite a bit for school & work. After getting my Masters in Counseling in Minnesota, I moved to Tennessee & Texas for my doctoral training. Then I worked a professor at a small college in Maryland, until moving to the D.C. area in 2020. Since that time, I’ve been honing my speciality areas and growing my professional network.

Outside of the therapy room, I love spending time outdoors, exploring new cities, learning languages (Portuguese, Spanish, Danish to name a few), and meeting others. You can find me dancing, traveling, or spending my time with loved ones. I love living in D.C., and walking or biking to my favorite spots.
